SDI 4 Apps - Uptake of open geographic information through innovative services based on linked data

The SDI4Apps project organised a Code Camp from 1st till 3rd December 2014 at the Cerit SC Center in Brno, Czech Republic as part of the project activities dealing with the architectural principles of the SDI4Apps cloud environment. The Code Camp was organized by the project partner Masaryk University https://sdi4apps.eu/project-partners/.

The event brought together technical partners of the SDI4Apps project along with the representatives of current Linked Open Data initiatives including the Linda (http://linda-project.eu/) and the Foodie (http://www.foodie-project.eu/) projects. The participants set out several challenges to tackle during the code camp including scalability of MapServer, clustering using GeoServer and spatial data publication using the Linked Open Data principles. This should increase the performance of the SDI4Apps platform and attract users from the spatial and open data domains.

The representatives of the Linda and Foodie projects shared experiences on the feasibility and impact of these particular initiatives with a focus on SMEs which are important target group for all three projects. In this way, they contributed to the user group analysis which will help in defining the baseline architecture. The participants also discussed data models and interoperability issues.
