The SPOI database is an open database integrating POI’s from a number of open data sources. To classify the different POI types, the easy to use WAZE classification system was used. One of the 10 waze categories is TRANSPORT. Our goal is to link specific TRANSPORT related information about time tables and public transport lines to the already existing and relevant transport POI’s in the SPOI database. The added value of the SPOI data approach consists in the implementation of linked data. The Linked Data approach enables efficient sharing and combining data from various resources. The SPOI dataset represents an open and seamless solution which serves as “a data fuel” for location-based and navigation services and applications.
More specific, we will link GTFS to the already existing transport POI’s like bus stops and railway stations.
Several GTFS files will be provided. The public transport stops can be found in the SPOI directory.

We received some additional ideas from Zemgale Planning region about this pilot. Seems that this could be something of real interest.
Application: Public transport route planner
Aim- to effectively plan use of public transport in Bauska county for its residents and visitors
Application should:
1) Plan route with more than one mode of transport
2) Determine the closest public transport stop depending on the coordinates of the user
3) Show information about the closest public transport stop (name, transports served, distance from current location)
4) When choosing concrete bus stop show departure times of all transports
5) When choosing concrete transport and time showing the specific route of transport and time of arrival in destination (or time of arrival in all the next stops)
6) Possibility to plan individual route by multiple criteria as:
– Start point and destination
– Time of departure
– Choosing the fastest option
– Choosing option with no transfer
– Choosing the mean of transport
– etc
